The Horizon Europe project MILADO explores Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs), a type of semiconductor laser that emits light in the mid- to far-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, typically from 4 to 12 micrometres and beyond. Unlike conventional semiconductor lasers, QCLs operate through intersubband transitions within the conduction band of a semiconductor superlattice structure, enabling high power output and tunability across a wide range of wavelengths.
